The main assignments of the DPI are as follows:

To facilitate foreign investments into the province.
- To disseminate policies, laws and regulations and information on foreign investment.
- To coordinate with various relevant line departments the implementation of incentive policies for approved investment projects.
- To monitor, inspect, assess and report to the provincial governor regarding foreign investment.
- To consider issuing or withdrawing foreign investment licenses within the scope of rights and duties.
- To act as a focal point in solving problems related to foreign investment.
- To organize annual meetings at provincial level and consultative meetings with foreign investors.
